Smile! No, Wait. Is this thing on?

Ever get ready to snap a photo of that special moment only to discover that the camera is set to “video” mode?

Well, today I was cleaning up my video folders and found that over the course of eight or nine years of digital picture taking it appears we’ve amassed our fair share of these little time capsules.  Those two second videos are sometimes more amusing and memory provoking than the pictures they were intended to be.  Check out the montage below for a taste.

It’s all “location” humour, meaning you had to have been there.  But you might get a little chuckle anyway.

Screeching In Conan O’Brien

Posted by Steve @ 6:56 pmTags: , ,

Screech-In-CertificateI told my friend over at Missing The Rock that I was going to steal this video I recently saw posted on her site. Being an honest thief, I figured I’d make good on that promise.

For those of you who may not know what being “Screeched In” is, here it is in a nutshell. Newfoundlanders have a playful ritual they perform on visitors to our province inducting them in as honorary members of our home province. The ceremony includes having the inductee drink a shot of Newfoundland Screech, dancing a jig, and kissing a codfish, all while wearing a sou’wester.

The ceremony is sworn in as the visitor is asked “Is you a Newfoundlander?” The inductee responds, “Indeed I is, me ol’ cock. Long may yer big jib draw!”

Natasha Henstridge takes a couple of liberties, likely for the sake of time. Conan seems to have some fun with it though!

A Pittance of Time

Posted by Steve @ 12:56 amTags: ,

Lest we forget, please take some time to remember. See last year’s post repeated below.

A Pittance Of Time
Written by Terry Kelly © Jefter Publishing – SOCAN

They fought and some died for their homeland.
They fought and some died, now it’s our land.
Look at his little child; there’s no fear in her eyes.
Could he not show respect for other dads who have died?

Take two minutes, would you mind?
It’s a pittance of time,
For the boys and the girls who went over.
In peace may they rest, may we never
forget why they died.
It’s a pittance of time.

God forgive me for wanting to strike him.
Give me strength so as not to be like him.
My heart pounds in my breast, fingers pressed to my lips,
My throat wants to bawl out, my tongue barely resists.

But two minutes I will bide.
It’s a pittance of time,
For the boys and the girls who went over.
In peace may they rest.
May we never forget why they died.
It’s a pittance of time.

Read the letters and poems of the heroes at home.
They have casualties, battles, and fears of their own.
There’s a price to be paid if you go, if you stay.
Freedom’s fought for and won in numerous ways.

Take two minutes, would you mind?
It’s a pittance of time,
For the boys and the girls all over.
May we never forget, our young become vets.
At the end of the line,
It’s a pittance of time.

It takes courage to fight in your own war.
It takes courage to fight someone else’s war.
Our peacekeepers tell of their own living hell.
They bring hope to foreign lands that hate mongers can’t kill.

Take two minutes, would you mind?
It’s a pittance of time,
For the boys and the girls who go over.
In peacetime our best still don battle dress
And lay their lives on the line.
It’s a pittance of time

In peace may they rest,
Lest we forget why they died.
Take a pittance of time.

Is There Anybody Out There?

Posted by Steve @ 5:44 pmTags: , , , ,

I lucked into a free ticket to go see the Austrailian Pink Floyd concert in Moncton this past Monday night. Our friends Kevin and Christine from Charlottetown had planned to attend but for some reason Christine couldn’t go. Kevin, being desperate for friends, had almost no choice but to ask me if I’d like to go.

Like my Cirque du Soleil experience, I had heard the show was good but I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. What the heck… the worst I could do is get my money’s worth. Well! Was I in for another treat! The show was awesome, the music was impeccably reproduced, and the crowd was thoroughly into it.

I managed to take a couple of vids with my iPhone. The light and sound in the building kind of overwhelmed the recording equipment in the iPhone, but you will get the feel of the concert by watching anyway.

Here’s the encore:

Check out other vids of the show on my Youtube Channel.

Thanks again Kevin, for inviting me along with you.
