Unbeaten? No… Unwound.

Apr 08 2009

Me! Trying to play pool!I play in a billiards league. It’s a fun league, but competitive enough to make it interesting. My team played really well this year. In fact, this year was my personal best. With three weeks remaining in the regular season, we had already clinched first place. Now, we are in the playoffs. Last week… fairly easy win. This week (tonight actually)…not so easy. After four rounds of play, we tied. In the playoffs, a tie is not allowed. We had to play an extra round. We tied the extra round. So… we had to pick a player to play the best two out of three against a pick from the other team. Being captain of the team, I picked myself. I was feeling good. But I lost. Yup. Lost. Oh well.

My Pool Team, Winter 2008/09What’s worth mentioning though is that I don’t really feel like I choked. Sure, I made a couple of mistakes, but I didn’t feel overwhelmed or nervous. The adrenaline was pumping, but my hands were steady and my determination strong. The other guy just made less mistakes and pulled out more super shots when he needed to.

I’d also like to pay tribute to my team. Kudos and hoorays to Steve, Reggie, Rennie, and Jason. You guys gelled well as a team, one taking up the slack for another when he was having a bad night. Now, smarten up so we can take first place in the loser’s bracket!

Moncton TreeGO

Sep 23 2008

Moncton TreeGO, arbre en arbre (tree to tree) is an aerial obstacle course in Centennial Park, in Moncton, New Brunswick. Participants climb up into the trees and maneuver across rope bridges, dangling logs, zip lines and tarzan ropes, reliving their youth and prehistoric urges.

If you were to ask me if my wife would ever do something like this, I’d say “no frikkin’ way, eh.” But I’d have been wrong. My darling wife, nervous about heights, strapped on her safety harness and ventured aloft, swinging like a monkey in the trees. I must say… I’m quite impressed.

From their site:

Donna at TreeGOYou begin TreeGO TreeGOon the green course where you get comfortable with the equipment and the rhythm of moving through each activity. Balance is required, and we know you can do it! Now on to the blue course where suddenly childhood memories of rope swings and climbing trees comes back to you. Up further into the trees you head on to the red course. You’re feeling confident now and can’t help laughing out loud as you zip through the forest or watch your friend try to walk gracefully across a moving obstacle. Now it’s time for the ultimate in focus and fitness – the black course. You climb up even further into the tree canopy discovering that your movements are even more fluid than before.

Way to go, Donna! You GO girl! Or rather, you TreeGO, girl!

Divorce? Over a new Leaf blower?!?

Oct 20 2006

Tie Domi’s wife, Leanne, is pissed off at him because he got a new leaf blower. She’s filing for divorce.Leaf Blower.jpg

On CBC.ca

Leanne Domi has not made any direct statements to the media about the breakdown of her marriage, yet the allegations laid out in the divorce application are quite specific.

“Tie Domi has committed adultery with Belinda Stronach,” the first line of the court document reads.

What’s the world coming to? icon_wink

Go Oilers GO!

Jun 19 2006

Oilers win game 6I don’t really watch hockey. The regular season can come and go and I wouldn’t have watched a single game. But when the playoffs roll around, I perk up a bit and start paying attention. I watch more closely as the Canadian teams advance. This year, the Oilers have made it particularly interesting with their miracle comeback. After blowing a 3-goal lead in the first game against Carolina, I pretty much had them written off. Now, they’ve come back from a 3-games-to-1 deficit and we are headed into game 7 tonight! It’ll be a nail-biter.

Go Oilers GO!!
