Alan and Ruby Hatcher are my Godparents, very good friends of my parents, and a part of my childhood memories growing up in Newfoundland.  Yesterday, Ruby passed away after a relatively short battle with lung cancer.

I hadn't seen either of them for many years.  Last year, on my trip home to Newfoundland, I saw Ruby again at my parents' anniversary party.  It was very nice to have seen her again, and I distinctly remember how pleased she was to have seen me after so many years.  It was a short time after that that my mother found out that Ruby had cancer.

I am saddened at her passing.  Another person who was much too young to leave us has gone.
