Some dude I never heard of before, Andrew Keen, who apparently started up a music site called Audiocafe 10 years ago that went belly up in 18 months is criticizing the blogosphere saying that it is made up of "Millions and millions of exuberant monkeys … are creating an endless digital forest of mediocrity."
The article on cnn.com goes on to quote him as saying, "The villains in Keen's narrative are a "pajama army" of mostly anonymous writers who spread gossip and scandal, "intellectual kleptomaniacs," who search Google to copy others' work and the "digital thieves" of media content in the post-Napster era." This arsehole wrote a book that explains his views: "The title of his polemic, 'The Cult of the Amateur: How Today's Internet is Killing our Culture,' attacks what he calls the 'cut and paste' ethic of Web users, who he says are robbing professionals of their livelihoods."
A lot he knows… I use copy and paste.
My feelings are hurt. I've been called a monkey before, but never an exuberant one. I don't even know what exuberant means. So I looked it up… one definition I found was "generously fruity and vigorous". I'm not exactly sure what that means, but I don't like being called it…
So, my response to Mr. Keen: I know you are but what am I? Nyaaahhh!
