One of My Favourite Photos

Feb 08 2007

Over the years, we’ve taken a lot of photos. The volume had increased when we ventured into the world of digital photography a few years ago. We have intentions to scan our old photographs, bringing all of our pre-digital memories into the digital age.

Garrett Boxed Up!One such photo is the one on this post. This ranks right up there as one of my favourite photos ever. It was taken shortly after we moved from Newfoundland to New Brunswick. I had a job offer I couldn’t refuse, and Donna and Garrett followed me. We made a last minute decision not to move into the house I picked out which would have required a 12-month lease. Instead, we ended up in a shit-hole apartment that looked like it was built in the 60′s and hadn’t been updated since. (See the carpet? Jeez!)

In this photo, taken almost 10 years ago, Garrett and I were horseplaying. The living room was cluttered because we didn’t completely unpack. We had no intention on staying in the apartment for long; it was just going to tide us over until something better presented itself. Anyway… Garrett, me, horseplaying…boxes and junk sitting around the living room. You can see what happened next. Garrett backed away from one of my “punches” and went ass-first into an empty box! Hilarious! I quickly grabbed the camera and snapped this photo.

I like it because it is so genuine and spontaneous. Garrett, at six years old, was able to laugh at himself and enjoy the situation. Sometimes when you think you have nothing, you have an awful lot, eh?

Memory – The Long and Short of It

Feb 06 2007

My son told my wife and me that he thought he had a great long term memory, but not so great a short term memory.

“Really son. What makes you say that?”

“Well, a couple of hours ago, I was thinking about something that happened years ago. I remembered every little detail SO clearly…”

“That’s cool. But what makes you say your short term memory is bad?”

“Now I can’t remember what it was I was thinking about.”

Happy Birthday Wifey …And Your Twin Sister!

Feb 05 2007

Good day folks! Today is Monday February 5. No special day, really. But yesterday… well that’s a different stMy wife and her sisterory! Yesterday was my wife’s birthday. I didn’t get at my computer to make the post, so that’s why the birthday wish is late. I could have changed the timestamp on it so it looked like it happened yesterday, but that would be not exactly the truth, would it?

Speaking of segues, my wife is just a little bit older than I am. By “just a little bit” I mean several years.  By “several years” I mean I’d better shut up before I get pushed down a flight of stairs. Anyway, she likes folks to believe the I’m older than she is… So, when someone asks her how old she is, she will say “I turned 35 on my birthday.” Then, when that person asks how old her husband is, she’ll say, “He will be 40 on his birthday.” Both statements are true. She did turn 35 on her birthday, and I will turn 40 on mine. We are not saying which years, nor are we saying how many years apart they are.

Clever, eh? Like they say, there’s no sense getting older if you can’t get cuter!

Happy Birthday Darling! 364 days early! icon_biggrin

How to Handle a Telemarketer

Feb 01 2007

Phillip hung up on a telemarketer yesterday. He felt really good about it too.

Check out the sound file below. This is a much more fun way to deal with this irritation. This is HILARIOUS!!!
