Ugh… October.
Ok. It’s October already. We are heading into my least favourite time of the year, the onset of winter.
My preferred season is spring. In spring, you can feel increased warmth in the air. You can see the ground bursting with new growth, trees budding, wildlife a-buzz with activity. You can look forward to the hot days of summer. By contrast, autumn offers no anticipation of comfort and growth. This is the time of year that the days get shorter, the wind is cooler and the weather is not dependable. We’ll soon start getting snow. Not just snow, but snow mixed with rain, or followed up with rain, or just rain… cold rain. Cold and miserable. Winter brings with it many inconveniences, many of which drive me nuts… Shovelling snow, dealing with messy hallways, heavy coats, cold feet, frosted car windows, snow banks, and high heating bills all get on my last nerve.
Sure… autumn is pretty. The leaves are on fire with colour. The air is crisp and clean. But soon those leaves will fall, and rot. They will fill the air with the stench of decay. They will have to be raked, re-raked, and raked again. Then your rake will be replaced by scrapers and shovels. Tell me, is that anything to look forward to?
So… Anyone out there looking forward to winter? I can’t wait until spring.
