Oh Me Nerves!
I bought this car back in April for $2000. It’s a 1992 Toyota Camry with 300,000 kms. It’s been a great car…easy on gas, smooth ride, low maintenance. Until this morning. When I started the car up, something burst. One of my power steering lines broke. I don’t know what it will cost me to fix it, but I’ll keep y’all posted.
What’s funny though is that my 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan is going in the shop tomorrow morning because there are issues with the power steering… hmmmm.

Update on both: The car needed two power steering lines replaced. It was also due for its annual safety inspection and, of course, both rear struts needed replacing. $900. Shit.
The van ended up needing the who rack-and-pinion replaced! Luckily, the $1000 part was covered under warranty…
Oh well…

Power steering belts are like $25. What did they charge you for? I am assuming Struts and maintenance?

Power steering lines. The belt runs a compressor that sends compressed hydraulic fluid through high pressure tubes that deliver that pressure to the mechanism turning the wheels, thus providing the extra pressure needed to assist the driver with the task at hand. It was two of those tubes, or lines as I called them, that had to be replaced. The belt was just fine (for now!).

I need to replace the compressor for my AC. Hyundai told me the part is $1200 plus about $300 for the labour. I told them it was $1000 brand new.
