Conclusion illusion

May 30 2006

I’m amazed sometimes at some people’s ability to draw a conclusion that fits their purpose… Even when the evidence is overwhelmingly pointing in one direction, they allow their destination hallucination to take over. They see something that simply is not there, but supports their denial.

This is all harmless enough, until it’s projected onto others.

Before someone I care about hurts themselves trying to read between the lines, don’t worry. This post is about a former colleague of mine who is woefully wrong is some conclusions he has made about me recently. I thought we had a mutual respect, but maybe I was the one with the conclusion illusion. Oh well.

Conclusions often tell us more about a person’s natural inclinations than anything they can tell you or you can see for yourself.

You “conclusion illusion” was very positive and based on what you were led to believe, while his is negative to the extreme and based on his own incompetence and/or impotence.

You can hold your head up in any crowd while he hides behind a facade that breaks down at the smallest provocation.

You’re the bigger man … now there’s an illusion for you! icon_biggrin
